Sociology A Level ÎÛÎÛÂþ»The study of sociology encourages you to develop your capacity for critical thinking and to see the relationships between different parts of society. It will help you to appreciate the diversity of societies, how society is organised and the role of individuals and groups within it.

Who is this course for?
This course is suitable for 16- to 18-year-old students who like to question what is going on around them and who are keen to find out why things are the way they are.
What you'll learn
Sociologists are particularly interested in how your social class, age, gender and ethnicity affects your life chances. On this course you will study a number of different areas of social life. In year one you will study education, family and households and research methods. In year two you will study crime and deviance, beliefs in society including religion, science and ideology and sociological theory.
Course entry requirements
A minimum of 5 GCSEs at Grade 4 or above including both Maths & English language.
You will provide a copy of your last school report and/or a reference from an employer or relevant professional other this will include attendance. This is to ensure that we can support you to be able to achieve well on the course.
Applicants with 85% or below attendance will have been deemed not to have met this criteria.
All applicants are given an opportunity to discuss any evidence-based mitigating circumstances that may have affected the reference/school report.
How is the course delivered and assessed?
You will be assessed by a set of exams at the end of the two-year course.

Following successful completion of the programme, you could continue your studies in Higher Education.
This course will benefit anyone wanting to go into careers such as:
- social work
- teaching
- probation
- law
- psychology
- a range of public sector roles. Sociology is considered a social science, so universities will accept students onto midwifery also.
Additional costs
This course is free to anyone aged 16-18. There is no formal list of additional costs. However, if you are on a limited income, you may be eligible to receive help with these costs from our Learner Support Funding Bursary.
