This part-time course will develop your knowledge and skills.

If you are looking for a career as a carpenter in the construction industry, then this course will provide you with the industry-standard skills that employers need.

Who is this course for?

This course is suitable for adults aged 19+ who are interested in Site Carpentry and Joinery.

What you'll learn

This qualification consists of six study units to help you to develop technical skills beyond basic woodworking: understanding information, quantities and communicating with others, understanding construction technology, carry out first fixing operations, carry out second fixing operations, carry out structural carcassing operations and carry out maintenance to non-structural carcassing work.

Course entry requirements

4 GCSEs at Grade 3 or above including Maths and/or English or a Level 1 Diploma in a relevant subject plus GCSEs in Maths and/or English, or a Functional Skills qualification in Maths and/or English.

We will invite you to a course information meeting event where you will receive information, advice, and guidance about the course you have applied for. This will be an opportunity for you to gain valuable information about the course and give you the opportunity to ask any questions you may have.

You will provide a copy of a reference from an employer or relevant professional other. This is to ensure we can support you to be able to achieve well on the course.

How is the course delivered and assessed?

This is a part-time course. 

You will be assessed in a number of different ways and receive regular feedback in reviews to guide your progress. Some of the ways in which your success will be measured are attendance, exams, online assessments, practical assessments and portfolio work.

Future career and study opportunities

On successful completion of the course you may be able to progress to a Level 3 Diploma in Site Carpentry. You could also apply for an apprenticeship in the carpentry industry.

Additional costs

As a ÎÛÎÛÂþ»­ student, you may incur additional costs to attend your course. For example, it is likely you may need to pay for travel and stationery.

You will need your own protective footwear for practical sessions. You may need a high visibility vest, protective goggles and gloves for some tasks. We offer some equipment which is free for you to use in College.

If you are on a limited income, you may be able to receive help from our Learner Support Funding Bursary.
