A two-year, full-time BTEC National course in Art and Design, with a focus on Photography.Ìý

In year one, students complete a Diploma before completing an Extended Diploma in year two.Ìý

This full-time course gives you a solid understanding of creative and technical photographic practices, skills and techniques.Ìý

This course is part of a wider study programme, which includes a tutorial and personal development element, work experience opportunities through outside set projects and design challenges.Ìý

Who is this course for?

This photography course is forÌýyoung people aged 16-18ÌýandÌýadults aged 19 and over.Ìý

You will need to have a passion for photography and image production.Ìý

This course is for people who are excited about learning, experimenting and developing their photography skills. You will have the opportunity to work independently on practical projects. Ìý

What you'll learn

This course consists of a variety of creative projects, which will focus on visual recording skills, exploration of materials, techniques and processes as well as generating ideas and concepts. Ìý

Course entry requirements

We will invite you to a course information meeting event where you will receive information, advice, and guidance about the course you have applied for. This will be an opportunity for you to gain valuable information about the course and give you the opportunity to ask any questions you may have.

You will provide a copy of your last school report and / or a reference from an employer or relevant professional other this will include attendance. This is to ensure we can support to be able to achieve well on the course. Applicants with 85% or below attendance will have been deemed not to have met this criteria.

All applicants are given an opportunity to discuss any evidence based mitigating circumstances that may have affected the reference / school report.

If you are applying for a creative practice-based course, you will be invited to bring a portfolio of work that demonstrated what you have done in your previous courses.

5 x GCSE’s at C/4 or above, or a Level 2 Certificate / Extended Certificate or above (at merit or above) in a relevant subject.

You will have gained either English and/or maths at GCSE C/4 or above, or L2 Functional skills in English and/or maths.

How is the course delivered and assessed?

All assessment is through coursework – there are no exams. Ìý

Future career and study opportunities

After completing the first year of the course you can continue to study this subject in more depth in the second year.ÌýÌý

Alternatively, the option to switch learning and transfer onto one of our other Art and Design Extended Diplomas can be explored.Ìý

Some learners may choose to leave the course after the first year and progress to employment, into Higher Education or to an apprenticeship.Ìý

After completing both years of the course, you may wish to progress onto a Foundation Degree or BA Hons Degree at Higher Education Level.Ìý

Additional costs

As a ÎÛÎÛÂþ»­ student, you may incur additional costs to attend your course. For example, it is likely you may need to pay for travel and stationery.Ìý

While the college has some DSLR cameras available for students to borrow, most students choose to purchase their own camera allowing them more opportunities to shoot images in their own time.

Many courses offer learning opportunities that you may need to pay for. This may include things like study visits and visiting speakers. We will let you know in advance if there will be additional costs.

If you are on a limited income, you may be able to receive help from our Learner Support Funding Bursary.
