Level 3 Diploma in Youth Work ÎÛÎÛÂþ»­

If you are interested in pursuing a career in youth work, or already working in this area and seeking qualification as a youth work practitioner, then this is the course for you.

We are working with ÎÛÎÛÂþ»­ Youth Work Alliance and South Glos Youth Partnership to run this qualification, which has been developed with industry experts including the National Youth Agency and ETS England and Wales. This qualification embraces the National Occupational Standards for youth work and is JNC recognised with endorsement by ETS England and Wales. It supports the skills and knowledge learners and practical experience required to become a competent youth support worker.

Who is this course for?

This course is for anyone working in or aspiring to become a qualified youth work practitioner and gain JNC validation. The course is aimed at anyone who is aged 19 and above who has a passion and desire to become an inspirational youth worker to support young people reach their potential.

What you'll learn

Learners will complete this qualification with a concrete understanding of the following:

The values, core principles and current policies relating to youth work

Intervention strategies in youth work settings

The principles, knowledge and skills needed for work-based practice

Working with Behaviour that challenges

Reflective Practice and Work based-Practice

There are a number of Optional units available which include:

  • Detached and Outreach Youth Work
  • Facilitate the Learning and Development of Young People through Mentoring
  • Principles of Supporting Young People with Relationships and Sexual Health
  • Support Young People who are Refugees or Seeking Asylum
  • Support Young People to Achieve their Learning Potential
  • Support Young People who are Looked After or are Leaving Care
  • Understand how Youth Work Supports Young People who are LGBTQ+
  • Exploring Values, Beliefs and Spiritual Development within a Youth Work Setting
  • Youth Work in Digital Spaces and Places
  • Trauma informed approaches to Youth Work and Social Action
  • Loneliness and Isolation for Young People and more.

Learners on this qualification will l undertake 80 hours of work experience in a youth work environment (paid or unpaid) throughout their learning journey. Learners must have access to a real work environment for most of the units.

Course entry requirements

There are no formal entry qualifications for this course, but we would expect learners to have sound English and maths, with at least a Grade 4 in English and Maths at GCSE, or a Functional Skills qualification, or adult literacy and numeracy at Level 2.Ìý

You must have a work placement either paid or unpaid, or be able to source one for the start of the course.

All learners must have a DBS cleared to enable them to work with young people as a mandatory requirement for completion of their placements.

How is the course delivered and assessed?

All units are assessed internally and externally verified. The work is set through assignments and practical application of knowledge in the workplace setting consisting of formal observations and completion of logged activity work case studies and written projects. The course is a Pass/Fail grade.

Future career and study opportunities

After successfully completing the course, learners will have gained a nationally accredited qualification which is JNC approved, allowing them to become employer youth work practitioners.

Additional costs

This course is eligible for funding for learners aged 18. Anyone aged 19+ will be eligible for funding under the National Skills Fund, which entitles anyone of any age to obtain a Level 3 course if they have not already achieved one.

If you have already obtained a full Level 3 course in eth past, you may still get the course funded if you are in receipt of benefits or on low income. You may also get this course funded through an Advanced Learner Loan if you are not eligible for funding.

The full cost of the course is £811 which can be paid in instalments, or if you are being sponsored, can be invoiced to your employer or nominated sponsor.
