Hospitality Skills ÎÛÎÛÂþ»­

This half-year vocational course will introduce you to the catering and hospitality sector. It will be delivered at South ÎÛÎÛÂþ»­ Skills Academy on Wednesdays from 10:00 – 15:30.

You will complete a Level 1 BTEC Introductory Award Vocational Studies qualification and develop your employability skills. You will cover topics such as:

  • Progression opportunities and the different areas and positions that are relevant to Catering and Hospitality
  • Kitchen H&S and Food Hygiene
  • Knife skills – from knife sharpening, to focusing on a variety of different cuts
  • Table set up, service – plate and tray carrying
  • Cooking – using kitchen equipment and following different recipes

Who is this course for?

If you’re an adult who is interested in catering and hospitality, this course is a stepping stone towards working in the sector.

What you'll learn

During this vocational course, you will:

  • complete a series of catering and front of house assignments
  • learn how to organise yourself and develop a Personal Progression Plan
  • develop your employability skills

Course entry requirements

We will invite you to a course information meeting event where you will receive information, advice and guidance about the course you have applied for and provide evidence that you are working with at least Entry Level 3 ESOL or English.

How is the course delivered and assessed?

This is a half-year, part-time course. You will be expected to attend College for one day a week.

During this course, you will be assessed in a variety of different ways to give you the best opportunity to demonstrate your skills.

Future career and study opportunities

After completing this course, you could progress onto a Level 1 certificate course, an apprenticeship or employment.

As a ÎÛÎÛÂþ»­ student, you may incur additional costs to attend your course. For example, it is likely you may need to pay for travel. 

Many courses offer learning opportunities that you may need to pay for. This may include things like study visits and visiting speakers. We will let you know in advance if there will be additional costs.
