This course is for school leavers aged 16-18.

You should be interested in the health and social care sector and wish to make a difference to other people’s lives. You may want to become a health carer or social worker. This course is an ideal stepping stone towards achieving your ambition.

This course offers learners a great opportunity to enter into the industry of health and social care but also offers a pathway to Level 3 BTEC National Foundation Diploma in Health and Social Care.

During this course you will study a range of topics from human lifespan development to communication.

You will cover a range of topics including:

• health and social care values
• human body systems
• creative activities
• health living.

You will also develop your study skills, including English and maths skills needed by employers. You will have the opportunity to resit GCSE English and maths.

This course is a vocational qualification, where you develop knowledge and understanding by applying your learning and skills in a work-related context. You will develop skills which are essential for the modern-day workplace.

4 GCSEs at Grade 3 or above, including Maths and/or English or a Level 1 Diploma in a relevant subject plus GCSEs in Maths and/or English, or a Functional Skills qualification in Maths and/or English.

We will invite you to a Course information meeting event where you will receive information, advice, and guidance about the course you have applied for. This will be an opportunity for you to gain valuable information about the course and give you the opportunity to ask any questions you may have.

You will provide a copy of your last school report and/or a reference from an employer or relevant professional other. This is to ensure we can support you to be able to achieve well on the course.

Some Level 2 Technical qualifications may require a slightly higher entry requirement based on the specific content of the course. This may include having English or Maths at Grade 4

You will preferably have some previous experience of working in the health and social care sector.

After your enrolment on the course, you will need to complete a satisfactory Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.

This course is for 16-18 year olds. You will need to have a good behaviour and attendance report from your last academic year.

During this course, you will complete two exam units including human lifespan development and healthy living.

You will also be asked to complete coursework based assignments including communication, health and social care values, equality and diversity and creative activities.

In addition to this, you will be asked to complete 100 hours of vocational work experience in a relevant health and social care setting which is assessed.

After successfully completing this course, there are a range of different pathways to continue study or to obtain employment in.

You can move on to work as a care worker assistant, youth worker assistant, a care home or hospice assistant and someone who works in community healthcare or hospitals.
