Level 2 Award/Diploma in Art and Design (Digital Design) ÎÛÎÛÂþ»­

This full-time, one-year course will introduce you to basic Digital Design practices, skills and techniques.

You will have the opportunity to work with interesting and diverse projects while gaining a valid understanding of subjects such as Graphic Design, Digital Photography, Digital illustration and design.

You will experiment with your ideas, look at the work of other artists and designers and build a creative portfolio.

This course will give you a UAL Diploma/Award in Art and Design qualification.

Who is this course for?

This course is for young people aged 16-18 and adults aged 19 and over.

If you are interested in arts, crafts and design but have had very little experience, or are a student who wants to develop Art and Design skills combining traditional and digital approaches to working this may be the course for you.

You will gain nationally recognised qualifications while doing something you really enjoy, building confidence working within the broad subject area of art and design.

What you'll learn

During this course you will complete specialist units which will provide you with basic and creative skills in digital design, research into a range of artists and 2D and 3D digital work.

You will have the opportunity to work on a personal project and showcase your newly developed skills within the subject.

Although the course runs alongside relevant English and Maths qualifications, you will work with vocationally relevant projects to help develop and understanding of contextual language and maths involved within the subject at industry level. You will also develop your personal presentation, communication and organisational skills.

Course entry requirements

4 GCSEs at Grade 3 or above, including Maths and/or English or a Level 1 Diploma in a relevant subject plus GCSEs in Maths and/or English, or a Functional Skills qualification in Maths and/or English.

We will invite you to a Course information meeting event where you will receive information, advice, and guidance about the course you have applied for. This will be an opportunity for you to gain valuable information about the course and give you the opportunity to ask any questions you may have.

You will provide a copy of your last school report and/or a reference from an employer or relevant professional other. This is to ensure we can support you to be able to achieve well on the course.

Some Level 2 Technical qualifications may require a slightly higher entry requirement based on the specific content of the course. This may include having English or Maths at Grade 4

How is the course delivered and assessed?

Your work will be assessed through written and practical means. You will present the work in sketchbooks, digital blogs and in different practical formats.

You will be assessed on your research, development and experimentation and final outcomes.

You will have access to a full record of feedback and marks for you to monitor your progress, self-assess and reflect on your own practice.

Future career and study opportunities

After successfully completing this course, a range of different subject areas are open to you, even if they are not related to Art and Design.

The most common progression from the Level 2 Diploma is on to one of our creative Level 3 courses including Art and Design, Graphic Design, Fashion and Clothing and Photography.

You can also move onto another Level 2 course and explore new areas of the creative sectors, such as Creative Digital Media.
