Construction (Electrical Installation) Level 1 Certificate for School Leavers ÎÛÎÛÂþ»­

This one-year course will give you skills to work in the electrical industry. You will develop both your personal and practical electrical installation skills.

The highly skilled teaching team will help you develop the knowledge you will need to progress onto a Level 2 diploma, a Level 1 diploma or an apprenticeship, depending on GCSE retakes.

Who is this course for?

If you’re a school leaver and interested in electrical installation, this course is an ideal stepping stone towards achieving your ambition.

What you'll learn

You will complete a diverse range of vocational units throughout this course including:

– Making an electrical circuit
– Costing a small repair job
– Drawing a plan of a room
– Developing a personal progression plan

You will also undertake volunteering or work experience.

Course entry requirements

You will need English and Maths both at Grade 2 as a minimum.

We will invite you to a course information meeting event where you will receive information, advice and guidance about the course you have applied for. This will be an opportunity for you to gain valuable information about the course and give you the opportunity to tour our excellent facilities and ask any questions you may have.

You will be asked to provide a copy of your last school report and/or a reference from an employer or relevant professional other. This is to ensure we can support you to be able to achieve well on the course.

How is the course delivered and assessed?

This is a full-time course.

Alongside your College tutorials, and retaking your GCSEs in English and/or Maths, you will also be required to take part in work experience and self-directed study.

You will also attend sessions to develop your employability and personal skills to help progress into an apprenticeship.

You will be assessed in a variety of ways to give you the best opportunity to demonstrate your skills throughout the year.

Future career and study opportunities

On successful completion of the course you may be able to progress to the Level 2 Diploma if you have obtained GCSE grade 4 in Maths and English or the Level 1 Diploma if you are required to retake the GCSEs.

You could also apply for an apprenticeship if you have the required Maths and English grades for the application.

Additional costs

As a ÎÛÎÛÂþ»­ student, you may incur additional costs to attend your course. For example, you may likely need to pay for travel and stationery.

You will need your own protective footwear for practical sessions. You will also need to buy a workwear uniform. You may need a high-visibility vest, protective goggles and gloves for some tasks.

We offer some equipment which is free for you to use in College.

If you are on a limited income, you may be able to receive help from our Learner Support Funding Bursary.
